Kala-Azar at High Altitudes

Sir,?Major P. Savage, i.m.s., in the June number of your journal lias recorded the apparent occurrence of indigenous kala-azar at Sanawar in the Simla Hills, where up to that time the presence of Phlcbotomus argcntipcs, the suspected carrier of kala-azar, had not been reported. It is, therefore, of interest to note that in a collection of Phlcbotomus from Sanawar village, kindly given me by Captain P. J. Barraud, F.E.S., there were several specimens of this species. Apart from its possible relationship with kala-azar in this vicinity, it is of interest that up to the present Phlcbotomus argcntipcs has not been recorded in the North of India to the West of Saharanpur in the United Provinces, and that our previous knowledge had led us to believe that this species was limited to altitudes below 2,000 feet, while the situation of Sanawar village is
